The Last While
The last month has involved an intense amount of performing, practicing, organising and recording all elements of many different projects.
At the start of January I began recording my audition tapes for various graduate schools in LA. This was very taxing especially with the heat of summer recording becomes that much harder. While it was tricky putting together all the applications and finding out all the details I needed, I look forward to whatever result comes.
As soon as I finished these recordings I was on a plane to Adelaide in South Australia to take part in Australian Youth Orchestra's National Music Camp. For two weeks I rehearsed and performed intensely on repertoire from all eras of music and from solo to orchestral music. It was an intense two weeks that was both physically and mentally straining, however, I was lucky to meet some wonderful performers especially the low brass sections pictured above.
While I was on camp there was still more to do apart from rehearse. Over the two weeks of camp I was busy organising my newest and biggest project to date The Hot Socks Big Band. This group has been started as an avenue for me to produce interesting and exciting concerts and develop my skills both as a performer, leader and organiser. The work for this project seems endless but the rewards are hearing the first rehearsals and seeing all these musicians come together to make music. You can check out some footage of our rehearsals at this link and on our Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat pages.
You might think that this is already a lot for just January BUT there is more! You may recall I was part of Piano Percussion Trombone Trio last year. We were invited to do a recital as part of the St George's Friends of Music Concert Series. However, it turned out our pianist was not available, so now three has become two and I have formed a duo with my friend Alison. More details on this to come soon but check out one of our promo pics below.
The Next While
So the year has begun. It looks to be a busy one. The Hot Socks Big Band is sure to be keeping me very very busy for the year ahead. While I will do whatever other performances and work comes my way I look forward most to be able to play and perform with friends and build ensembles I want to keep working with for years to come.
I wish you all a wonderful start to the New Year and I hope you do everything you want to do in 2018.
