Australian Youth Orchestra- National Music Camp

  • Elder Hall University of Adelaide, North Terrace Adelaide, SA Australia (map)

70 years ago, the first National Music Camp was held at Point Lonsdale in Victoria. Since then, our organisation has embarked upon an exciting musical journey, enriching the lives of many young Australians along the way.

From Brahms and Beethoven, to Dukas and Debussy, the country’s most vibrant and talented young musicians will perform a range of orchestral masterpieces under the expert guidance of conductors Moritz Gnann and Christopher Seaman, in a series of free public concerts.

Known for being ‘masterly and entirely compelling’(Courier Mail) Australian harpist Marshall McGuire will perform Debussy’s revolutionary Danse sacrée et profane, a piece full of exotic passages and rich effects designed specifically for the chromatic harp. Led by violinist Sophie Rowell, this will be an excellent opportunity to see a rare gem in action.

Also performing alongside the country’s best young musicians will be clarinettist Ashley William Smith. Commonly referred to as ‘The Singing Clarinettist’, Ashley will display his prowess for contemporary music in Lachlan Skipworth’s award-winning Clarinet Concerto.
