‘So in all, the work is something of a road trip, developed and refined on computer back in Moonee Ponds’- Stuart Greenbaum
------------
Louis Nicoll and Kit Millais present a selection of contemporary Australian repertoire. Stuart Greenbaum’s Sonata is, by the composer’s own admission, a musical ‘road trip’ from Adelaide to Melbourne through Portland and Moonee Ponds, and it is influenced by a connection to these places. Linda Kouvaras' St. Kilda Sketches are similarly pieces with a strong connection to place, specifically the composer’s experience of living in St. Kilda during the 1990's. Sarah Elise Thompson’s i’ll meet you there takes inspiration from daily life as a musical depiction of meeting a friend using muted textures before opening up to show the friends uniting. Finally Fredrik Hogberg’s theatrical performance piece Subadobe also explores the quotidian, considering a person's inner psyche as they struggle for love, work and satisfaction in every part of their life.
